Twelve Days of CADD Care (Day Six): A tip to fix low resolution images

On the sixth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me…an easy way to fix low resolution on captured geolocation images.

Have you ever tried to use the "Capture Area" tool in the "Geolocation" Ribbon tab to create a working image in your drawing from the Geolocation Bing Images? If you have, have you ever wondered why the area you captured has such a lousy resolution?  Well, it's actually because of the fact that this function will capture the image in whatever resolution is currently being used by the Geolocation image. Since this resolution changes as you zoom in and out, the display area of your drawing when you do the capture is what will determine the resolution of the captured image.

So how do you get an image of better quality? Follow the steps below!

1. Use the Zoom > Window command to zoom into the exact extents of the area you would like to capture.
2. From the "Geolocation" Ribbon tab, make sure you have chosen the desired background to display (Map Aerial, Map Road, or Map Hybrid)
3. In the same Ribbon tab, click on the small down-arrow in the last button of the tab (this may say "Capture Viewport" or "Capture Area", depending on the last command that was chosen), and choose "Capture Viewport".

Voilá!  You now have a higher resolution image for your desired area.
