There is a lot of excitement around Collaboration for Revit (C4R) and how it helps Revit users in different locations work on the same project over the cloud, inside or outside the same company.
I recently had a grab bag of questions come up aroundBIM 360and C4R and wanted to share them with everyone. In no particular order:
Q. Are there any local files on my server if I use BIM 360 ? Our IT folks were wondering about running backups. also Can models be archived by users by downloading detached central files from C4R?
A. Backup is always a critical step in protecting your data. Since A360 Collaboration for Revit is a cloud service, you may need to adjust your backup procedures appropriately. Autodesk does not currently have an automated process for generating local copies of the models. If you want to make offline backups or record copies on a regular basis, you’ll need to schedule a manual offsite backup. Here is a good link with instructions for Managing Revit Models in the Cloud:.
Q. Is BIM360 included in the cost of Collaboration for Revit?
A. Yup!BIM 360Team is included in your Subscription to Collaboration for Revit.
Q. If I am using a C4R project, can I link to a model in a differnet C4R project?
A. If you are using A360 Collaboration for Revit, you can only link to a model in the current A360 project. The model has to exist in your A360 C4R project via Revit.
