How to Subscribe to Autodesk BIM Collaborate (or Pro) for Success

April 29th, 2021

Over the last year, cloud collaboration shifted from a nice-to-have to a must-have.  On February 9, 2021, Autodesk launched four new cloud offerings: Autodesk Docs in the Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Collection, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, and Autodesk Build.

The following information is guidance to help you determine how to subscribe to Autodesk BIM Collaborate (or Pro) for success.

If you were an existingBIM 360Design subscriber on February 9, 2021, you were automatically entitled to Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro. This includes cloud-based Revit work sharing, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Plant 3D collaboration capabilities as well as Model Coordination (the functionality ofBIM 360Coordinate).

If you are a currentBIM 360Coordinate subscriber, at your next renewal you will have the option to renew as Autodesk Collaborate or upgrade to Autodesk Collaborate Pro.

As an example, if you have (1) active subscription ofBIM 360Coordinate and (1) active subscription of Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro for the same user, at your next renewal you may be eligible to let one of the licenses lapse off subscription. Why? Because theBIM 360Coordinate functionality will be included in your Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro subscription. This new bundle could save you money!

Do not worry – when you subscribe to Autodesk Collaborate Pro you will still be able to access projects in the oldBIM 360Design andBIM 360Coordinate platforms. ForBIM 360Coordinate, your CADD representative will need to work closely with the Autodesk Construction Solutions team to provide continued access.

For your project work, the most important question you will need to ask your project team is: “What tool will we be coordinating in?”

If the answer isBIM 360Coordinate – you will need to ask:

  • Who is hosting this project?
    • If the answer is YOU – YOU will need to supply any consultant(s) with access toBIM 360Coordinate from your own subscription pool
    • If the answer is someone other than YOU – THEY will need to supply you with access toBIM 360Coordinate from their own subscription pool
If the answer is Autodesk BIM Collaborate (Pro), this tool is a Bring Your Own Subscription (BYOS) model – you will need to ask:
  • Does everyone on the project team have access to Autodesk BIM Collaborate (Pro)?
    • If the answer is yes – great! Collaborate away!
      1. If YOU have BIM Collaborate and THEY have BIM Collaborate Pro – you can still coordinate together YOU just won’t be able to collaborate with Revit
    • If the answer is no – you have two options:
      1. YOU can provide the consultant(s) with a subscription from your own pool
      2. Consultant(s) can buy their own subscription(s) and you simply invite them to the project
BIM 360 Coordinate is a different tool than Autodesk BIM Collaborate/Pro.

BIM 360 Coordinate is built onBIM 360Docs and Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro is built on Autodesk Docs. Today the tools do not “talk” as they are built on (2) different platforms, however you can easily select and navigate both platforms from within Autodesk Account.
