13 Things to Know About The New Autodesk Business Model

August 8th, 2016

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW POST-DEADLINE:

  1. You can still renew Maintenance Subscriptions on your Perpetual licenses – in fact CADD recommends renewing for 3 years to lock-in today’s pricing
  2. You are no longer able to purchase Perpetual licenses or Design + Creation Suites – you’ll now purchase Industry Collections (instead of the Suites)
  3. Autodesk no longer users the terms “standalone” and “network” – there is now Single-User access (standalone) and Multi-User access (network)
  4. The Collections contain Navisworks Manage and other valuable Autodesk software: http://www.autodesk.com/collections
  5. If you have a Desktop Subscription of a Suite (Premium or Ultimate) you should be able to transfer to a Collection at no charge, in October 2016
  6. There is not a path to take Perpetual Maintenance Subscriptions to Desktop Collections today but the FAQ from Autodesk alludes a path will become available at a later time
  7. Multi-User Collections can only be purchased in 1,2, and 3 year terms – no quarterly or monthly options are available at this time. Single-User Collections can be purchased for quarterly, 1, 2, and 3 year terms
  8. Multi-User Collections will work with the latest version of the Autodesk License Manager and can be combined in a license file with Perpetual licenses
  9. Revit is Revit – there are no more “flavors” of Revit, so when you rent Revit you are renting the “Revit One Box” which contains Revit Architecture, Revit MEP, and Revit Structure
  10. You still have previous version rights (access to the most current version and 3 releases back) when you purchase Desktop Subscriptions
  11. When you subscribe to a Collection with Multi-User access, you will be able to grant shared access to cloud services, whereas with Suites, customers are limited to a single named user per cloud service
  12. You will need an internet connection for the initial download from Autodesk Account. Single Users need to connect every 30 days. Multi-User access does not require internet access
  13. If you have Legacy (older Autodesk software not on Subscription) you may be eligible for a trade-in discount promotion until October 21, 2016
